Burns Night/Supper
A Burns dinner is a commemoration of the great Scottish poet Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796). The suppers are usually hosted on or around the poet’s birthday, which falls on January 25th. Celebrations, however, can take place at any time of the year. Suppers in honor of Robert Burns are conducted all around the world.
The piper’s role at a Burns Supper usually involves playing as the guests arrive and mingle before the ceremony. The piper will then pipe in the Haggis, usually to the tune “A Man’s A Man for That”. More music may be added to the end of the dinner or anywhere else the host deems appropriate.
