About Matthew

      Matthew Hubbard has been a musician all his life and is currently offering his services as a bagpipe player to the Space Coast, Florida area.

     After graduating from Ball State University with a degree in Music Education, he taught high school band for two years. He joined the US Army as a trombone player in 2001 and had a distinguished career; playing for audiences including Her Majesty the Queen of England, Vice President Dick Cheney, and in venues including Carnegie Hall, Churchill Downs, Ireland, and Afghanistan. He received his Masters in Music Performance from University of Louisville in 2008. 

     After separating from the Army, Matthew continued to be active as a musician playing in community bands and church groups. Matthew began his lifelong dream of learning the bagpipe in 2016 with the Omaha Pipes and Drums. He has been performing and honing his skills with the group until his recent move to Florida. Since coming to Florida, he has begun competing in Grade 4 Senior piping in EUSPBA sanctioned events and has won several awards.

     When Matthew is not practicing or performing he is busy spending time with his family and 2 dogs. He also enjoys knitting, cooking, and anything crafty. Currently, Matthew is living and performing in Melbourne, FL and is a member of the Space Coast Highlanders
